Random word assignment.

Had to do an illustration based off 3 random words. My words were: concession, klondike(which is a river in the Yukon also, not just the bar!), and barracks. This is what i came up with. I like the simplicity of it and had a lot of fun drawing and painting it and I defintely feel like i'm starting to bring more of my sketchbook work into my "finished" images. However I feel it's a little too close to Mr. Weber for comfort. That is something i'm struggling with but I try not to dwell on it too much and believe it will eventually work itself out.

Also for anyone interested here's a good article that one of my IA teachers aka Sterling Hundley wrote about the subject. Read it here.

I'm pretty much behind everything you said about this -- really cool image, nicely drawn and painted, but a little close to Sam. That guy just takes all the cool atmospheric stuff and draws it first!

this is really great! super solid piece. honestly, i didn't get a sam weber feel from it (even after you mentioned his name). it's not his stylization or mark-making. if the only thing weber-like about it is the mood, that's not a problem at all. just a really cool piece :)

I like this one a lot. Nice silhouette! Interesting story behind the image, makes me want to know more about it.
