sketchbook stuff!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Also I've started another blog just for small fashion illustrations I'm doing. I started doing these to force myself to draw more often. I feel like fashion illustration is a good vehicle for that because I don't have to think about a deep concept, and I have a consistent subject matter. Consistent subject matter really helps because now I can comfortably allow myself to work in different techniques and aesthetics. So no excuses not to draw right?

Please check it out here. Thanks for looking!

Here are some random bits of work from various things. I really just need to get into posting regularly. Expect that to happen when my scanner arrives! I'm going to be binge scanning.

Here is some of the work from the show at Gallery Nucleus. We were asked to illustrate different idioms. These were the first paintings out of the sketchbook I had done in a year. It was definitely a struggle and a bit frustrating. But I guess that is why I enjoyed painting in the first place. However I've started using traditional media again a lot more since the show. It was a good wake up call. Unfortunately I was unable to get good photos or scans before I had to send them off so I apologize for the small images. You can see the rest with some close ups here. Big thanks goes out to Lin Shi for inviting me to participate in the show.

"Over the Competition" , Idiom: Dark horse.

"The Other Side", Idiom: The grass is always greener on the other side.

"It Wasn't Me", Idiom: I smell a rat.

"Sick Day", Idiom: Feeling under the weather.

Here is something I did for the NYT OPED Letters page. You can read the article here. Big thanks to Alexandra Zsigmond and Aviva Michaelov.

Here is my small contribution to the Vend Send Mend show. Definitely check the show out, it's for a good cause and there are a lot of great artists contributing.

This was a commission that I recently did. After a round of sketches the client decided that they wanted to go with a couple of China inspired landscapes. I did another round of sketches and these are three sketches from the group. They decided to go with the first two sketches in the color of the third.

Here are the finals. I tried to keep them really simple, I wanted a grand yet serene feel to them.

Tiny tiny update. Gallery Nucleus did a little feature on me for the upcoming show Baker's Dozen. Read it here. I'll come back later with more about the pieces I did for the show.

I'm also in the process of investing in a nice scanner so these iphone pictures will have to do for this update. Some sketchbook stuff from in the last 2 months.

Been really lazy about updating the blog. So to get back into habit of posting, here is some old/new sketchbook stuff. I'll be back soon to update with more work.
