oh for real?

So i'm back at school and can finally scan some stuff. I have more to scan but the lab is closing so i'll do that another time. Also i'll try to put up some finished work, especially some of the work i did during the illustration academy. Anyways this is what i've been doing this summer. However i've changed the way i work in my sketchbook. I used to just go page by page but lately i've been jumping around a lot. I've also been painting over things...but not just things i didn't like...but over things i did like, which i guess is kind of stupid but i feel like it helps me move forward. So there are some repeats here, some obvious, some not (if you look really closely you can see some things underneath from earlier posts.) Anyways, that's it for now. peace and love!

YEA!

I have sketchbook pages to show but no access to a scanner since i'm no longer at school. but i'm heading down to the Illustration Academy soon(like 2 days?) and i'm sure they'll have a scanner down there somewhere. hopefully i'll be able to keep everyone who asked up to date on all that's going down while i'm there. hopefully it's gonna be epic. real talk. so stay tuned.

Progress

I haven't updated in a while so I thought I would post a in progress piece.
lately i've been doing a lot of experimenting/working out techniques.
but i've failed way more than i've succeeded, for surrreeee.
so after rubbing my painting out in frustration and going home to lie down in bed and stare at the ceiling for a bit, i thought about what i actually LIKE doing and what works for me. Such as drawing(which comes way more naturally than painting). When i look back at a lot of the stuff i've done, there really isn't anything i'm too excited about mostly because everything seems like it's a hit or miss (which was funny because Frank Stockton said he felt the same way about his student work in one of this blog entries). which isn't really SO bad, but right now, there are way to many misses. Also there are too many influences and too little dadu. Thats why i like sketchbooking. it's easier to be dadu. YUP ramble ramble, i apologize for wasting your time. take it easy everyone. PEACE.

so, starting off with a drawing (keeping in mind that the paint is going to come next). kind of what i did in high school, when my art brain was still a little ignorant piece of....brain.

The Society of Illustrators Student show was last Friday.
it was crazy. crazy awesome. very inspiring and very humbling.
really great meeting other students too...really cool peoples and artists.
unfortunately i didn't get to stay and meet and greet all of my heroes, and others who hold celebrity status with me. A big thank you to the society and Scott Bakal, and my teachers, especially Susan Doyle and Fred Lynch. All in all, it was a great night, makes me want to do it again!

Digital??

So, these are basically my first digital paintings ever.
done in corel painter. which was actually quite easy to get the hang of, i guess cause its basically paint.
the assignment was to do two portraits of Isaac Newton.
i'm still trying to catch up in photoshop and all that jazz.

Two

I'm starting to work out a technique that I like.
it involves a lot of wiping, painting, drawing and more wiping.
oh yea! most importantly, more fun than frustration.
but don't get me wrong, frustration is good too.

oh! and i'm officially going to the illustration academy this summer.
WORD.

Found a red pen

More stuff from the moleskine.
i included the drawing of the girl, because i way prefer the drawing over the paint.
actually i usually like the sketches/under drawings of paintings more than i like the finished paintings. which probably is not a good sign?

Pens

People have been asking me what pens i use.
so...i give you....

The Pentel R.S.V.P ball point pen. FINE.

People also ask me if i've tried the famous James Jean SKB pens.
i have. and i don't really like them. they are really great pens but i'm attached to my Pentels.

What i've been able to squeeze out between all the work i've been doing.
